Summer is the season to secure next year’s income

Hey Hey Reader!

Let me be clear, I am not the expert on business, sales, and how to close a deal. My jam is all about podcasting, content creation, and how to use SEO to get eyes on the two. I fell in love with podcasting because I suddenly had access to people and information that I otherwise couldn’t imagine the opportunity to be in the same room with. (Don’t get me started on Morgan DeBaun’s podcast!)

So, like you, I’m dialed in. Headphones on, pen and pad in hand.

I use podcasting to find and share answers to questions that Google is just a little too dry to answer for me.

One of my clients' podcast guests shared an interesting tip on the show recently. When the episode comes out I’ll be sure to link you to it!

The tip: Summer is the season where relationships are built to secure next year’s income.

During the Summer, we’re meeting new people, creating memories, and putting ourselves in spaces that we otherwise wouldn’t. So, while everyone else is posting pics from the beach, offering Instagram stories full of pints of Michelob Ultra, or sharing their airport carry on hack – there are very few people talking about their expertise.

Hold on, hold on! I know it seems unconventional, but hear me out.

Picture this: Joe Shomo is meeting up with a family friend for their annual lake trip. Joe is talking about all of the things, when Joe’s family friend mentions he is looking for a plumber. Joe doesn’t know any plumber’s personally, but he did see this one post about that one plumber. Joe says “let me show you.”

If the dots aren’t connecting here: you are the plumber! We are the plumbers!

I need you to start talking about your expertise online. Joe needs something interesting to bring up on his annual lake trip and your lack of posting is making Joe seem lame! How selfish of you! 😬

It’s time to give someone something to talk about!

Which leads me to our tip of the week.

Tip of the Week

Your captions are waaay too long

If we’re going to put ourselves out there, we have to come correct! I’m seeing LOTS of long winded posts online. Trust me, I’m a long winded girl, myself, so I understand! But here’s the deal: Unless you're sharing a personal narrative, your social media caption might be getting a bit lengthy!

Try this to streamline your captions for better engagement:

1️⃣ One Call to Action Per Post: Stick to either "watch" or "buy" – not both. Once your audience engages with your content, they're more likely to buy after they've received value.

2️⃣ Stay Focused: Share just enough to pique interest. Let's take it back to elementary school and focus on the 5 W's – Who, What, When, Where, and Why. Make the "Why" stand out and aim to answer each question in 1-2 sentences max.

3️⃣ Short and Sweet: Long posts often go unread--it can feel overwhelming to the casual scroller. People usually watch the video or look at the image first, then read. (Even on LinkedIn) Keep it brief to boost your chances of making a sale.

Clarity and brevity, paired with great storytelling can drive better results.

Alright, Happy Podcasting!

Hey Hey Reader! I mentioned this at the end of 2024, but it bears repeating: sometimes (read: most times), it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. At its core, marketing is all about relationships. Podcasts? They’re a way to nurture relationships—with your guests, your audience, and potential clients. SEO? It’s about finding the right words to connect with your people on their terms. Both are marketing tools I use to… you guessed it… ✨build and nurture relationships.✨ We’re officially 16...
